Supreme court stays Bombay High Court's order in BEST's e-bus dispute [15.7.22]

The Supreme Court has temporarily stayed the ruling of the Bombay High Court that directed the nodal transport provider BEST - Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport - to re-issue the tender for electric buses, terming the earlier process 'incorrect' where Hyderabad-based Evey Trans Pvt Ltd had won the bid.

The court was hearing a plea filed by the Telangana-based company to challenge the High Court's order in the Supreme Court. "Interim stay of the (Bombay High Court) judgment is granted till the next date of hearing insofar as the petitioner (Evey Trans) is concerned," said the division bench of Justice S. Abdul Nazeer and Justice JK Maheshwari in its order of July 14. "The supply of the buses, if any, by the petitioner, is subject to the result of these petitions and the petitioner(s) shall not claim any equity at a later stage."
