Supreme Court rejects BJP plea for central forces in West Bengal [26.2.2022]

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Friday dismissed BJP worker's distress plea for deployment of central forces to stop large scale violence unleashed against its candidates and workers by Trinamool Congress activists and also to assist the state election commission in ensuring a free and fair civic body polls.

A bench comprising Justices D Y Chandrachud and Surya Kant patiently heard senior advocate P S Patwalia for 15 minutes, during which the counsel apprised the court of incidents of violence unleashed against BJP workers and candidates, some of whom are allegedly threatened with physical injury to deter them from contesting.
